When the housing estates around my own started setting up their own security systems, the crime rate in my neighbourhood increased.
I am lucky that some residents in my housing estate have volunteered to set one up and all I have to do is to support it by paying a small fee to engage security guards. It is not an easy process to start up as there will be residents who will complaint about the system or give lots of excuses to avoid paying.
Following is a video of a robbery that occured in Taman Maluri, Cheras, forwarded by one of the residents for those who think that we do not need a security system in our neighbourhood.

What's up after "Blog Action Day"?
Do you think I been wasting my time working on promoting "Blog Action Day"?
The presentation I created and posted on SlideShare has generated so much interest that it has been featured and included in the 'Spotlight section' on the SlideShare homepage.
What I am most happy about working on this project through SlideShare is that I managed to make many more new contacts who share my interest and passion. So, here is my note of appreciation to SlideShare and its members.
Now you know where you can go if you need some inspiration or support for causes you believe in.

I just became a cartoonist!
I love living now. You do not have to be an expert to do anything you believe in. Just do it and here is my first effort as a cartoonist.
This venture started with a request for presentations on sharing Dharma from a fellow member of SlideShare, Zheng Jiqiang. Zheng introduced me to Ohteikbin who have created movie clips on YouTube and cartoons on ToonDoo to teach.
My message for my cartoon of the day is:
Ask and You Shall receive: The only way to learn what you can get is by asking for what you want. Found that passage at Personal Development.
And... expect to get more than you ask for.
Learned that from my own experience and from watching Cameron Johnson on Oprah's Big Give final. He wrote to invite Blue Man Group to do a special performance for Chicago Hope Academy, a college and life prep school for inner city kids. He highlighted their efforts to raise the USD100K needed to build an athletic field.
Blue Man Group not only agreed to perform, they also donated a USD50,000 check for the athletic field and another USD50,000 for the music and arts program. To top that, the group included 15 new guitars donated from Fender and a new upright piano from Gibson.
So! You have been warned. Expect more than you ask for.

Know your Computer
TMNet said nothing was wrong their end. So, what else could be wrong if your internet connection is down?
I checked the lights to my modem and noticed that only the button indicating that the power is on was lighted up. We just had a bad thunder storm and I did not pull off the telephone line connected to the modem in time.
I took my modem to my neighbourhood computer shop, TYM Computer, and the owner Mr Foong, confirmed that my modem was out of service. I had called TMNet earlier and the technical staff there had advised that though it was offered free with my internet connection, there was no warranty for faults. To get another unit from them would have cost me RM160.00.
So, based on advises that I had received from my neighbourhood committee, I opt to go for an Aztech modem as its warranty includes damage caused by lightning strike. It was a unit also recommended by Mr Foong and it cost me RM95.00.
I discovered from Mrs Foong that the company have given away computers left by owners, who had bought new from them, to orphanage and such, after servicing them. I decided to leave my broken modem with them, just in case they could salvage some useful stuff out of it.
When my new modem also failed to get me connected, I was told to bring it back to the shop with my CPU. The verdict? The network card was also affected by the lightning. I thought it would cost me a bomb to install an Ethernet port and new card and that I will not have my computer back the same day but I got it back within 15 minutes and was charged RM28.00 for parts and service.
Brought my CPU and new wares happily home, looking forward to get connected and blog again but I couldn't! This time it was the monitor. So, Mr Foong, here we go again. What's up with this?
He changed my connector and charged RM5.00 for it and that's it, my system is fully working finally. And on his advise, I also placed my CPU on my table instead of placing it on the floor because it is more likely to be affected by dust particles.
My husband and I were so happy with his services that we took up a computer package he promoted for our son. I also learned from him that I do not need another USB port installed on my CPU. All I need is a USB hub which provides me 4 connections.

I guess going to a computer shop for technical assistance is like going to an auto shop to have your car checked and you wonder what $urpri$e$ the repairman will drop into your lap.
I think it is time for me to know more about my computer hardware since I drive it daily and I should not have any problem catching up with these links I have discovered:
What's All That Networking Stuff Called? and What's All That Computer Stuff Called? from The Morehouse College InfoTech Department which also provides many useful electronic information.
Computer jargon explained by Jon Storm.

Publicity stint that stinks.
I received the following comment in my posting, "They struck oil! In the trash.".
I went to the weblog to check it out and see that it provides Soccer / Football Live Score and they run this service through request for donations. It is clearly not related to my write up on my blog so I was wondering why he linked me. Then I noticed among his list of donors, my blog link was included with a claim that I have donated USD30.00.
This is not true and may give others a false impression that I advocate this site. I have requested the commenter to remove my blog link.
Now I am wondering what other "objectives" I have supposedly supported through such linkings.

Streamyx connection down again
My Streamyx connection is down again. This time it's because my children messed around with the password for dialing up the connection.
It is a good thing that I have my Service Acceptance Form on hand, since I am not able to dial up to check my write up on "To change password to your Streamyx connection"
I called the TMNet number, 1300-889515, which is printed on the form and was given a new password to dial up. Then I went through the steps I have written to change my password but this time, it did not work.
So, I called TMNet and these are the additional steps you can take if you cannot change your password online.
1) Click on "Start" then click on "Control Panel"
2) Select "Network Connection" and click on it once to highlight it (turns blue)
3) Press the shift and delete keys together to remove it.
4) Look at the "Network Taskbar" on the left of "Network Connection" and click on "Create new connection".
5) At "New Connection Wizard" click on the "Next" button.
6) Select "Connect to the Internet", then click on the "Next" button.
7) Select "Set up my connection manually", then click on the "Next" button.
8) Select "Connect using broadband connection that requires a user name and password", then click on the "Next" button.
9) Type in "Streamyx" for ISP Name, then click on the "Next" button.
10) Type in your (user name)@streamyx and type in your new password. The user name should be the one you have registered with Streamyx
11) Type in your new password again, then click on the "Next" button.
12) Click on the "Finish" button and a dial up box will appear.
13) Dial up using your new password and you are on.
So, the next time my kids mess up my connection, they know what they should do or else.....

A Good Partner is Essential
If you are thinking of getting a business partner, remember that it is not a good idea to start one when both of you have not established a strong trust for each other. Make it a point to understand your potential partner's objectives in being involved with you. Do you share the same goals and objectives or are you both on a "let's see" attitude. How will the company grow when one is relying on the other to make it work?

How did one survive?
Watch this slide and you will start reminiscing about the way you live in the good old days. At least it got me.
I remember as a child growing up in Malacca, we always leave the gate and door to our home opened and neighbours and friends could just walked in when they wanted to visit us. I do not remember anyone ever calling ahead to ask if it was a good time to visit.
We lived with our grandparents together with the families of my uncles and aunties. During meal time, while the women in the house cooked, the younger children were dumped into a big, improvised from wooden pallet, play pan. One of the children could have urinated or excreted in it, but they will not be attended to till it was time to eat.
My mom likes to tell this story about my eldest sister as a child. While playing in the play pan one day, she excreted into her plate she was given to play with. When it was time to eat, my mom washed the plate and feed her with it! My sister is still around after that ordeal to be embarrassed by this tale.

Philosophy Recycled Blogged and Mapped
While doing a search for a solution that I have posted on my blog, I discovered that I have been blogged. So, why would Blogged linked me on their site? Curious I did a search and discovered a write up, "Blogged.com Offers Simple Way to Find Blogs" by Search Engine News.
I may have been noticed by one of its 10 full-time editors based on any of these qualities:
1) frequency in posting
2) design
3) writing style
4) relevance to topic
If you have enjoyed what I have posted, pop by Blogged to rank me.
And if you are wondering where in the world I am located, Verve Earth has me on its world map! Zoom in on Malaysia and you will see that... what?!!!...I am in Kuala Lipis, Pahang!!! At least, now I know my IP address is somehow connected to that area. All thanks to Clayton, the CEO of VerveEarth.com, who noticed my posting on SwirlinWhirl.
No matter, to be blogged and mapped; I must have written something write. To my friends out there! Don't forget that some of these postings are the great stuff that you have been emailing me. So, thank you for sharing.

A letter from an unborn child
Do you know what is an amniocentesis test?
I know about it because I conceived both my children after the age of 35. When I was in my 15th week of pregnancy for both my children, I had this procedure performed on me to remove amniotic fluid from my womb for testing. I chose to do it because I was advised by my gynecologist that the risk of having children with Down Syndrome increases with age.
This video will give you an idea of the procedure I had been through.
It will take about 2 weeks to get the result and if the test shows any chromosomal abnormalities, the parents will be given the option to abort the pregnancy. By then the feotus will be 17 weeks old. After watching this slide I received, I am very grateful that both test results for my children showed no chromosomal abnormalities and I do not have to make such a decision.

Error reports when using firefox
Since I have recommended using Firefox as a browser, I think I should advise of the possible problem you will face with it.
It is the "error report" that appears before Firefox browser closes down on you just as soon as you click on the "Mozilla Firefox" icon on your desktop. There is an option to send the errors reports to Microsoft. As this happens to me often, I did a search and found the solution on Yahoo! Answers.
SharksRule in his reply provided the steps to disable Windows' error reporting system.
1) Click on "Start"
2) Click on Run
3) Type "sysdm.cpl"
4) Click on OK
5) Go to the "Advanced" tab at System Properties Box
6) Click on the "Error Reporting" button
7) Select the "Disable Error Reporting" option and the box for "But notify me when critical errors occur" will be checked.
8) Click OK to apply and OK again to close the box.
I have just done that. You will hear from me again if I have any more problem with error reports.

I love you to bits and blogs.
I received "I F I K N E W" in my mail today and was moved to put my thoughts in writing.
=================================================================================
If you feel that I am not there for you
Know that you have always been on my mind
You can read it in the things I write about.
If you feel that I don't love you enough
Know that I will look into your needs and wants
Making sure that they are right for you.
If you feel that you cannot cope without me
Know that I will share my thoughts and experiences
And leave you an everlasting presence wherever you may be.
I love you to bits and blogs.

Lost your bag? What's next?
My bag has been snatched before so I know the anxiety my friend must be going through when she called to inform me that she has lost her bag. So, what should one do when you lost your bag? These are the things I did:
1) Try to recall what you have kept in your bag. Are the keys to your house in it? If they are consider changing your locks since the thief will have the address to your house just by looking at your identification card in your wallet.
2) Call relevant banks to inform them that your ATM and credit cards have been stolen.
3) Make a police report as you will need it to have MyKad re-issued. Some police stations (eg, Bandar Sungai Long) require you to go to another station (Kajang) to have your report stamped and recorded in their system. To save time, go to that station directly so that you do not have to go through the process twice. You can find the addresses of Police Stations in all states in Malaysia by doing a search on myGov Directory. I prefer to use Malaysia Central to find useful information on MyKad, such as:
How to apply
Where to apply to find a location most convenient for you. For those living withing Kajang, this is the place to go to:
Jabatan Perdaftaran Malaysia (Kajang)
Tingkat 3
Complex Hentian Kajang
Jalan Reko
43000 Kajang
Selangor
Tel : 03-87338936 / 4520
Here is a map to this location.
If you do not want to be charged by banks for replacement cards follow up by calling them to enquire where you can fax a copy of the police report with your request not to charge.

A wake up call from my son.
My son came home from school recently and happily told me that he has scored 91% for his Science subject. I was smiling with pride, until he rattled on the scores of his classmates, with one hitting 98%.
I asked him why he could not hit that mark too. He looked at me blankly and said, "I can easily hit 100%". As I looked at him with an "Are you sure?" expression, he continued, "Just copy", and walked away.
Well, I have been to school before and I know that some of my classmates do copy during examinations. I quickly grabbed hold of my son, and told him that I am so proud that he has done so well without cheating.
So, the next time he tells me his score I am going to shout "Yahoo, well done!", instead of pushing him to copy.
