Free software applications from Ubuntu

I have been forwarding information about "freebies" discovered online to members of my neighbourhood community and in the process, I received this information about Ubuntu.

====================================================================

Have you peoples heard of Ubuntu ( linux ). It is superb, and best of
all, no need to run virus scanning program and no need to even defrag
your system. Ever since using it, i managed to get more work done than
window, where everything is WAIT & WAIT & WAIT & WAITTTTTTTTTT

BTW, the other good news is that everything and i mean truly everything
is FREEEEEeeeeeeeeeee

====================================================================

Ubuntu is an African word meaning 'Humanity to others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. Following are information I want to know about it.

What is Ubuntu?
1) a community developed Linux-based operating system
2) can download, use and share with others for absolutely nothing
3) issue a new desktop and server release every six months
4) get free security updates for at least 18 months
5) everything you need on one CD
6) installation should take less than 25 minutes

What can I do with Ubuntu Desktop Edition?

1) surf the web,
2) read email,
3) create documents and spreadsheets,
4) edit images and much more.

Will it meet my requirements?

Read about its OpenOffice Product Features

How can I get Ubuntu?

1) Download
2) Buy on CD or DVD
3) Request a free CD

I did a search on the word "free" on Ubuntu and discovered that they are many interesting and useful articles to read about on it's link.

There is also The Ubuntu Forum Community that I can go to if I have any problem using the programme.
